Lyrics for
Come Away With Me
Look at me baby
Look into my
hands
Look at the
lines in my palms
I am a child and
you are a wonder
I want to show
you the ways of my light
Come away with
me, I will lead you
Come away with
me
Come away with
me, I will lead you
Come away with
me
Look at the
candle
Watch the flame
burn
Crawl inside the
fire
Feel the heat of
my love
Follow the scent
of my falling tears
Call out my name
I will let you come near
Come away with
me, I will lead you
Come away with
me
Come away with
me, I will lead you
Come away with
me
Follow me - tell
me everything
Follow me - let
me dry your eyes
Follow me - let
me peel away your fear
Come away
Come away with
me, I will lead you
Come away with
me
Come away with
me, I will lead you
Come away with
me
Come away, come
away, with me

Story Behind the Song:
Several years ago my dear friend and mentor,
John McCormack, a renowned theater producer,
gifted me with a funky old stage piano. The
piano was barely standing. My sister and I
had to prop the legs up with books, but it
was playable – and I played the rickety old
thing until I drove everyone around me
insane. It was no baby grand, but it was
great for ideas! I was walking through
Central Park one evening after work.
Central Park is one of the most magical
places in the world – especially in the late
afternoon in the beginning of the summer.
Walking through the park, the music for the
song Come Away With Me popped into my
head. The lyrics and the melody
evolved simultaneously. I couldn’t get away
from the tune and I played around with the
melody a little on my piano – and there you
go – I had the song. I sang the lyrics
and the melody for my friend, musician Watt
White, and he wrote the guitar part. Come
Away With Me was one of those songs that
just “happened.” I had written it before I
really knew what exactly I was even trying
to say. This song captures a moment in my
life when I was on top of the world, and I
wanted everyone to feel as alive and
beautiful as I did in that moment in the
park. Come Away With Me shares
my exuberance and enthusiasm for life...I
hope you feel it!!! |
