What does Christiane
Szabo have in common
with Jimi Hendrix,
Judy Garland, Paul
McCartney, and Cole
Porter? She’s a
gifted singer, a
gifted songwriter,
and a lefty. It
ain’t easy to find
left handed guitars,
and it’s harder
still to find left
handed guitar
players – in fact –
she’s the only left
handed female rocker
she knows. A rarity
to say the least –
Christiane’s
extraordinary style
is unique and
arresting, perhaps
in part, due to her
unique perspective
as a left handed
musician.
Christiane’s music
has been compared to
many diverse
artists, including:
Alanis, The Dixie
Chicks, and Bjork –
go figure!
After several years
playing the New York
City circuit, upon
the encouragement of
her world class
cellist, Dave Eggar,
Christiane decided
it was time to make
a record.
‘Saltwater’, her
debut album, was
co-produced by Dave
Eggar (recent solo
release, "Left of
Blue," Grammy
nomination for
production on David
Chesky's "Chesky:
Area 31"), Nik
Chinboukas (Chris
Caffery, Blow Up
Hollywood), and
Christiane Szabo.
‘Saltwater’ was
recorded at Spin
Studios in Astoria,
Queens, engineered
by Nik Chinboukas,
mixed by Yury
Anisonyan at Optimum
Sound Recording in
Los Angeles, CA (Tia
Sprocket, The Creins),
and mastered by
Glenn Schick at
Glenn Schick
Mastering, Atlanta,
GA (Ludacris,
YingYang Twins,
Montell Jordan). The
record features
players Dave Eggar
(Dave Sanborn,
Manhattan Transfer,
Trans-Siberian
Orchestra,
Evanescence), Ian
Riggs (One Ring
Zero, Ethan Lipton),
Shane Shanahan
(Yo-Yo Ma – Silk
Road Ensemble, Sonny
Fortune, Philip
Glass), and Marcus
Wolf (Thalia,
Desmond Child).
Elements of country,
bluegrass, folk and
rock combine with an
explosive energy
creating a truly
original sound. A
contemporary
troubadour,
Christiane's lyrics
relate intimate
details and
‘Saltwater’, her
debut album, is a
moving collection of
the breadth and
depth of her
enormous talent.
